“The ARTgarage is operated by Cedar Center Arts, Inc., a 501c3 organization.” That statement is huge! It means that the IRS feels our mission and goals are charitable in nature and our programs are valuable to the arts culture in the community. It means, as with most arts venues, we are able to actively raise funds to keep our mission alive. We invite you to visit the “Patrons” page for giving opportunities and thank you for your financial support! our mission
To encourage an appreciation for and participation in the visual, performing and literary arts. so how did it begin
Two art majors at the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay didn’t want to lose the energizing “art studio experience” once graduated. They shared their vision for working studios and a gallery with the owners of The Cannery on Olde Main in October 2005. By March 17, 2006, the ARTgarage was open. Housed in a 4,000 sq. ft. space that once was the cannery loading dock, the ARTgarage features Cream City brick walls, high wooden ceilings, a cracked and stained cement floor… the perfect setting for this exciting arts venue. Talented, local artists “make art” in seven individual studio spaces and are eager to talk with visitors about their artistic process. In the gallery, over 20 artists display work in all mediums and sizes. The ARTgarage also lifts up the performing arts and hosts First Saturday Performances each month, offering everything from poetry to blues to vaudeville. Art forums, classes, a Summer Art Workshop for Kids, portrait painting sessions, community arts events have all grown out of the grass roots efforts of a few people. existing in the community
The ARTgarage is part of the Cannery on Olde Main, a sprawling complex of shops and a familiar landmark at what is called “Three Corners,” where Baird, Cedar and Main streets intersect. As part of the Olde Main Redevelopment District, The Cannery and the ARTgarage are helping to bring value back to the area along with many other businesses and private property owners who want to reclaim rather than demolish our city’s history. The ARTgarage is a welcoming neighbor to the diverse populations within our community and proudly displays, “Everyone Welcome” on our front door.
